The Sopranos Theme Tune

I’ve just started watching the full box set of the brilliant Sopranos again which reminded me to find out who sung the opening theme tune.
Before my search I always thought that it would be someone like Huey Morgan of the Fun Lovin’ Criminals or another American artist. So, you can imagine my surprise when I found out that the track was actually performed by a band from Brixton, London.
I still can’t believe the song, called “Woke up this morning”, is performed by a British band because it really does sound like an American group.
The group is called Alabama 3, or A3 as they’re known in the USA, and formed in 1995 mixing rock, dance, blues, country, and gospel styles.

To date the Sopranos theme is still their biggest and most notable hit.

INXS Headlining

I loved the music that INXS produced in the 80’s and 90’s with classics such as Original Sin, Need you tonight, New Sensation, Suicide Blonde, etc.
So, I was really excited to hear that the band have been announced as the headline act for this summers Southern Sounds music festival in London.
The festival will be held on Saturday 11th June at Clapham Common and it will be the first time in four years that INXS, made up of the band members Tim Farriss, Jon Farriss, Andrew Farriss, Kirk Pengilly and Garry Gary Beers have appeared London.
The group will be supporting their new record Original Sin.

Grooveshark

Whilst at work my colleagues and I listen to the radio for some background music otherwise the office would be very quiet.
We used to listen to BBC Radio 1 but they constantly play the same songs and some of the DJ’s are annoying to listen to. So, we changed to Key 103 which a local radio station for the Greater Manchester area. This station promises to not play the same song twice between the hours of 10:00 and 16:00 and it has a golden hour every day at 10:00.
However, the downside is that they play a lot of adverts and again the DJ’s aren’t up to much.
We have therefore started to listen to our favourite music via the music streaming websites Spotify and Grooveshark. Spotify is the most recognisable of the two but unless you pay for a subscription membership you will have to listen adverts as well as music.
That’s why I would recommend the website Grooveshark which is free to join, has lots of music to stream (all of which is uploaded by users) and you don’t have to listen to any adverts.
You can create your own playlists and listen to radio stations playing music similar to your favourites.

Don’t just take my word for it though, have a look and listen yourself.

V- Festival 2011

All last week and pretty much since Christmas If I’m being honest, I’ve been looking forwards to this years V-Festival. However, my dreams have been completely and utterly destroyed because the tickets sold out in record time. I have read that all the tickets were sold in under 1 and half hours after going on sale yesterday at 9:00am.
It would have been the highlight of my year except for Christmas and my yearly holiday obviously. I was really looking forward to seeing the headline acts Eminem and the Arctic Monkeys as well as Plan B, Duran Duran and of course Rihanna.

Apparently some web sites are still selling tickets but they have inflated the prices as you’d expect!

Black Eyed Peas are back.

This is the best news ever – the Black Eyed Peas have announced that a new album is in the pipeline for being launched before the end of 2010. I love nothing more than listening to this group at full blast, in my car, windows down, on a sunny day! I’ve played the album over and over and have yet to tire of it which normally happens quite quickly with me but not with this one!

The last album The E.N.D which was a huge bazillion-time platinum gave the impression that it could be the last album they were going to release. But no, it was merely an acronym for ‘The Energy Never Dies’.

They’ve announced that the title of the new album would be The Beginning – could that be an acronym for anything i wonder?!

At last – something to look forward to!

Elvis is not dead yet!

It would have been Elvis 75th Birthday this year and to celebrate this the ultimate Elvis collection is being launched.

The box-set will include 30 CDs including 711 master recordings and over 100 rarities.

It will also feature a 240-page reference book.

According to the media release, it has taken yaers to complete as all the original analogue tapes where they’ve been available have been used.

Every track has been carefully restored without compromising the audio quality of the original master.

So if you’re an Elvis fan this could be time agin to get the record player out and your dancing shoes and get those feet swinging around. Time to relive your youth my friends!

Here’s a new one for you – LAdy Gaga, who has recently rekindled the romance with New York barman Luc Carl ‘ thinks lovemaking could take away the creativity of her art???

She thinks that by having sex that it would be taken away through her vagina?

I would have thought that by relaxing and just lying back and enjoying the ride, allsorts of creativity would flow through her mind? No is that just me then that can write a shopping list, plan next weekend and have a good tine in bed?!!

Anyway, Gaga states that she is too scared to be in a relationship because she finds it hard to trust people. So maybe she thinks if she is in a relationship and ends iup sharing her thoughts and ideas – they’ll be snatched away before she can put her own name to them?

Britney is back.

I’ve heard on the grapevine that Britney Spears could have a new record out in as little as a few weeks.

It’s all very vague, but apparently producer Rodney Jerkins told UStream that ‘Britney fans (are there any?) are gonna be so happy in a few weeks.’

So, she’s been in the recording studio, as Danka and Predator Dub Assasins have previously revealed, putting together her seventh album (blimey I didn’t realise there was that many!)

Is hse ready to hit the stage agian – last year on a TV show she gave the worst performance ever. As long as she is fit enough to dance and sing at the same and give her fans what they expect I’m guessing she’s ready!

Amy Winehouse strikes again!

Why oh why does this girl never learn and why are we so interested in her anyway? I personllay think her music is shockingly rubbish and her latest performances have been nothing but embarassing. I have given her the benefit of doubt as I did feel sorry for her for a while – but no, not any more!

It’s only been reported recently that she’s overcome her drug and drinking addiction so why is she out partying again?

Apparently after visiting five different bars in London this weekend and before she fell asleep outside on a table, Amy narrowly missed getting hit by a car as she stumbled into the road.

Time to do something else AMy – give us all a break!
