Yesterday on the 7th July 2009; 20,000 people crowded the Stable center in Los Angeles to pay tribute to the ‘King Of Pop’. MJ was in his $25,000 gold plated coffin. His family had a private service for him earlier that day. The precession then went down the highway that had been closed by the police for the event and to the staple center. It was not expected by most people that the coffin would be at the staple center however it was and it made it a much more personal and real event because of it.
Many people feared that the event would be seen as an un-tasteful sideshow to MJ’s death; this was backed up by one of MJ’s closet friends refusing the invitation saying she didn’t want to be part of the media hoopla.
Thankfully however it didnt turn into a circus and it was a fitting tribute, There was a fair share of preachers who hailed MJ as the savior of the world and made him responsible for Obama becoming the first black president of America! The most fitting people to be there were the legends of mowtown who have known MJ since the very beginning and supported him through his career.
New artists also performed at the event including Maria Carey and usher. The whole event coverd the full spectrum of young and old and took in people from different countries, they all performed on stage together at the end with a song MJ co wrote with Lionel Richy.
All in all a nice tribute to a Ledgend
