A memorabilia company has erected an 11ft replica of the Beatles first contract. The giant contract was put up on Carnaby Street in Liverpool to give fans of the Beatles the chance to sign the contract as though they to were part of the band!! Im not entirely sure what the point of all this actually is, it seems to be part of a competition the memorabilia company has entered in to to win the original contract which is worth half a million pounds.
I realise that the Beatles are a massive part of Liverpool and the culture and heritage however as my partner is from Liverpool and all the family i think i can safely say that the majority of people in Liverpool are sick to the back teeth of the Beatles, Some of them see them all as fakes, People believe the Beatles started trends in fashion which was wrong, the Beatles dressed the same as everyone in Liverpool at the time and didn’t stick out more than the next guy.
After having to live with something year in and year out for so long things are going to get tiresome, The Beatles is one of them. Was this giant contract erected ‘for the fans’? No it wasn’t, it was erected so someone could make money out of the Beatles, if they really wanted to do it for the fans then they would have done it on august bank holiday when the Mathew street festival was on, this way fans from all over the world would have seen it instead of the people that have had it rubbed in their face for the last 30 years!

Hi Theresa, some of your facts are not correct. We did have a massive copy of the contract for fans to sign, just for fun, but this took place in Carnaby Street London last month (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2odsOA16Mg) We thought better of doing something like this in Liverpool for some of the reasons you have given. However, a lot of people from Liverpool and who visit Liverpool love the Beatles and a lot of what they mean to Liverpool. The Beatles Story is a well visited tourist attraction, who we are working with to display the original contract document later this month. Maybe we should take up your idea and do something for the Mathew Street Festival
